Our Rescue Chickens

All of our laying hens on our farm are rescued from either the British Hen Welfare Trust or Daylesford Organic Farms

We rescue our hens at a point where big commercial chicken farmers are switching between flocks. This gives the chickens an extended life, grazing amongst our woodlands and pastures.

A main aim of our regenerative farming approach is to restore and improve soil health. A key part of this approach is to maximise the symbiotic relationship between chickens and cattle to regenerate soil health.

Chickens love to feast on the grubs and larvae found in cattle manure, which not only plays an important role in controlling pests and insects, but by scratching around in the dung, they are spreading the manure evenly throughout the fields.

Not only does this practice improve the fertility of the soil, but also benefits the environment, enhances biodiversity and sustainable food production.

We use the eggs laid from these chickens in the production of our ice cream, which can be purchased from our vending machines - as well as their eggs!
