Red Poll Cattle
A dual purpose breed for milk and meat
The Red Poll cow is a traditional dual purpose breed for milk and meat dating back hundreds of years, known for thriving in low input management systems and a great converter of turning grass into milk and meat.
In recent years, the Red Poll cattle breed has risen up form the “Priority” list on the Rare Breed Survival Trust’s Watchlist, and are now sitting in the “At Risk” list.
We have 45 Red Poll cows that we are milking in a small dairy, making us one of the largest pedigree milking herds in the country. We milk our cows once a day with all of our milk either being sold through our 3 fresh milk vending machines, or turned into cream to use in our made on farm ice-cream.
We feed the cows on a 100% forage-based diet, and we are Pasture For Life accredited, which makes for excellent quality, rich, creamy milk.
Being dual purpose, any offspring not retained to go back into the dairy herd, and transferred into our beef herd and finished on-farm.
